I have the same problem. My hips are very stiff from years of riding like a show jumper

(very short stirrups) My new instructor is teaching me to be more elegant with me seat ie: sit taller, ride longer etc. She said when im on the ground if you hold on to a fence, stable door or something like that with one hand then swing the opposite leg as high up and back as you can, really stretching as you do it, it will losen up ur hips. Im now able to lengthen my legs and sit alot better just from that one simple exercise. Hope this helps it did for me.
