Hire out my horse trailer advice

Hi all, i have a new Ifor williams 511 that some poeple have asked to hire but i cant find insurance anywhere! it must be available because there are a lot of hire company's out there. Any idea where i can get it as i am reluctant to hire it out without insurance.

Hire companies would be running a business, not just an occasional one-off. This is a very risky thing to do as people never (rarely) look after something they have borrowed as well as the owner. What happens if your borrower's horse kicks your trailer to bits, or they leave the jockey wheel down and bend it, etc. etc.

There are firms around that hire out trailers, let the people get them from those companies.

You might be lucky and have a wonderful, grateful, careful friend who looks after your trailer well, but be well aware of the others!
 
Let them hire a trailer from a company & don't feel presured to let them use yours. It's not just the hiring out of the trailer & arranging insurance, you would also need to know that the person hiring has a licence allowing them to tow. If they don't have a licence & anything happened your insurance would be negated. It's a minefield & much better to leave it to professional hire companies.
 
There was an article about hiring out horseboxes etc in last week's H&H. It said in there that there's not many companies that offer hire insurance and that its often very expensive.
I think it mentioned one of the companies that do insure for hire but I can't remember which it was!
 
Look at the website my rental horse box .
They arrange insurance for exactly this type of thing .
I am wagon less ATM so have been looking at it from the renting side .

Hi, I rent my ifor 506 from a lovely lady local to me (she runs a proper trailer hire business) I had to show my licence to prove I can tow (which she took a copy of) and I also had to sign a contract, I also had to take a hire trailer policy insurance - the only company to offer it is E&L on their special hire insurance (works out about £13 per month) and had to provide the lady with proof I'd purchased the insurance. You can hire your trailer out but there are a few guidleines you'll need to follow to protect your interests and of course your trailer, but it is possible.
 
As well as the above you need to make sure proper equine recovery insurance is also taken out! Whilst the persons tow car is insured to be picked up by RAC or AA they will not touch the trailer or the contents of it!!

So you will need them to take out trailer recovery insurance as well. Equine Rescue Services do that.

You will also need a real water tight equine law and transport contract!!!!

some poor person was hiring out their trailer (not a new one) and the leasee got stopped by the police and basically they were breaking the law so instead of accepting the points etc and fine they went on to sue the poor person who was hiring out as 'they had a duty to ensure that the vehicle was capable of pulling the trailer and weight' as somehow her contract was like just off the internet/home made

She did end up paying out a few thousand in the end and gave up helping people not surprisingly.

I would think long and hard about allowing a NEW trailer out with numpties!

I've seen the state of my friends self drive lorries and all brand new and all coming back looking like a bunch of chimpanzees have been jumping all over them! Scratches and huge scoring where horses have been tied up and eaten the lorry! One horse had been tied up to the wing mirror and promptly stripped the paint off the bonnett!!!
