Just had my 20 by 40m passada surface school built, was looking to hire it out sometimes, apart from insurance do I need anything else? And what sort of insurance?

Currently I dont have a full set of jumps so obviously wouldn't get much, how much would you charge hourly without jumps and then with?
Thanks x

I used to hire out a 20x40 school for £5 per horse per hour. There were jumps of a fashion, but they were pretty ropey and you had to use your imagination to put them up (propping poles against the fence, using tyres as makeshift cups etc!)

Ok thanks, Ive only got 1 proper jump at the min! Lol, I know they charge like through the roof prices in my area but they do have a full set of jumps.

Do you need to have a full set up jumps to hire it out. Being a non jumper, i much prefer clear arenas. its a pain having to dodge piles of wings and poles. As it is a new arena, I bet it is wonderful, totally clear of jumps and nicely levelled/raked. Cant you maybe get, say, 4 plastic jumping blocks and 6 poles, so that someone can do a bit of schooling with them. Is the arena big enough for a full set of showjumps ?

Oh no I was going to hire it out before I got the jumps anyway and then maybe charge more when got the jumps if they required them.

Yes you can get a nice course of jumps in there.

Just trying to find out about the insurance?

I pay £20 per horse per hour :O dam its expensive down here. Thats a HUGE 150m x 40m school though with a massive set of jump for joy jumps fillers, brushes etc.

£20! gosh that sounds a lot. I think I did pay around that for an indoor school once. I would pay £10 per hour to hire an arena. Some do £10 per hour and some do £10 per horse. I hired one recently when bringing my horse back into work and wanted to take him to another enviroment just before we went to a show and it was £10 an hour but a friend and I went for company and to just share the cost and she then wanted £20. That peeved me a bit as we had to hack there and were only in there for half hour in the end.

that £20 is outdoors as well

thats pretty average round here !

I'd say £10 is reasonable. £20 seems a bit steep given you can go and have a lesson (and use the instructor's facilities) for only about an extra £10.

One school I pay £5 for half an hour, £8 for an hour. Another outdoor school I pay £10 an hour. Both have reasonable jumps to use and are within 5 mins hacking distance. Nearest indoor is £15 an hour but is 15mins drive away.
