Hissing

So when we feed Minnie she really hisses at us. Think this is for a few reasons, she really wants the food so doesn’t want to run away, but she is still worried about us moving around whilst stood up

She was in a pen with three other cats and therefore competition over food

We are ignoring her when she hisses, we just walk over to her feeding spot and put the bowls down and walk away

I’m feeling this is the best way to deal with it, I don’t want to stress her more and the hissing is just that, it’s not escalated

Just wanted thoughts though

She will also hiss away from feeding times but only when we are stood up and moving, but in this situation she takes herself away when she needs too

Yes I'd ignore it. Our spicy girl did that to start with around food and gradually stopped as she felt more relaxed. I never reacted to it. I think everything's a bit heightened where food's concerned!

Yes, it’s obviously an important resource to her and she’s come from a situation where food was in short supply, and then there was competition over it

Just felt I should do an update on the Minnie one, she is going from strength to strength and is now 100% with me. With OH they are much more confident with each other and she is now happy to be stroked by him and the hissing around feeding time is definitely reducing

She is enormous fun and just a beautiful little sausage xx

She looks very content . I love her markings she looks like she’s dipped her face in black paint .
