Ours had this the other week and decided she was too warm in her rug with a liner…took the liner off and it cleared up in a couple of days.
Could also be rash from mud/sand…has he been laying in anything different to normal?

B has been like this on and off since she was reclipped end Jan, only on the clipped bits, when it's not raining we have midges out, already!

Not that I’m aware of, he has been out in the arena for a roll without a rug although not something he’s not done before

My mare was covered on her sides and a few on hindquarters last Saturday, it was very warm on the Friday so
I assumed she got too hot under rugs but when I googled it apparently it's unusual for horse to have a heat rash, more likely allergy to something. Anyhow she was fine in herself, I reduced rugs and hives have now gone but taken all week so it's a bit of a mystery why they appeared.

Yes I read the same but our previous pony also had the same thing after a warm spell when he was wearing a heavy rug so I think it’s perhaps not that rare as 2 of ours have had it!
