Hmm, mum has made a lovely offer but thinking it's a bad idea?

Or at least selfish, on my part.

So looks like Badger is going to have to have a fair bit of time off for his poorly leg. :( even if mild can't see him hunting again this season. :(

Thing is I've paid my full sub to the hunt (over 1k!!) and been 3 times!! Mum has fit and ready to go hunter back home but can't really afford to hunt. She wants me to send Badger home to recover and bring Caffers down here to hunt, great offer - but I'd just feel so selfish and mean to Badger!!! And what if I broke Caffrey as well??

What do you think?

I don't think it was your fault Badger was injured, so I would put doubts about breaking Caffrey out of your mind for a start. These things do happen with horses.

If you think Badger would settle and be happy at home, then I don't think you'd be being mean. You could go and visit him, right?

I think you have a wonderful mother! (It's the sort of thing we do ;) )
She wouldn't have offered if she didn't mean it.
Hunting is risky - I'm sure she's thought about that, as well.
Perhaps as a "Thank You" you could offer her a day or two when she comes to visit?

Thanks guys. Badger would settle fine - he lived there for 5 years! I'd just feel like such a brat shipping off my injured horse and bringing in a nice fresh one!!

Good idea! ;)

Think of it as a lovely rest cure for him, like others have said. Anyway, if he's on a yard now where others hunt, would he get all wound up watching them go while he has to stay behind? If so, maybe better for him to well out of it, ready to go again next season, fingers crossed!:)

^^^^^ This!

Go for it! and groom for her on the days she visits. My guess is she will love fussing over Badger and getting him right for you, will be proud to see you on Caffers and will still feel she can help out her daughter.

Boy, but I miss my Mum...:o

I'm coming round to the idea! Only thing is, not sure what Badgers rehab plan will be but we have a school and walker and lots of quiet lanes to wander round on and mum doesn't. She's also a wee bit scared of him so not sure how box rest hacking would go? But then he wouldn't be on much feed or very fit. On plus side mum and dad are around much more for any treatment/walking out/hacking on roads he might need where as I'm at work for day light hours.

IMHO go for it you have paid the sub and have a horse able to take you. badger will be able to get better at his own rate back home and you can keep the other going nice and fit through the winter dont miss out on something fantastic your not letting badger down at all
xxxxxx

just stop thnking and go with heart - badger needs rest mother has horse you have paid subs ffs mate its a no brainer lol and when hunting accidencents happen and wel youre mum will know so now i ask WTF are you waiting for lol :) x

I think the fact that your saying i dont want to be a brat and replace a broken horse make you not one if you get my drift. Its not like your dumping him off somewhere he wont be looked after, by the sounds of it your mum will have lots of time to pamper him and help recoup him, so i say go for it. :)
