Hi all...
As you may know I've had a pretty rough 18 months. Luca has been back on the long and slow road to recovery from his back injury, we had a hiccup on Thursday last week when his back was tender so gave him a few days off - no big deal.
Last night I got to the yard (YO had turned out for me in the morning as I had stayed away the night before) and one of Luca's haynets was missing (I know they aren't good but they are tied to twine and I've not had a problem before with him - they are well out of leg reach I thought). Found it broken up in the middle of his bed.
Got him in and did a very rigorous check of everything on him - no heat, no marks, no swelling.
Got him out of his stable this morning, his left lower front leg was slightly swollen (wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been staring at it) and there was a little (again only about a degree or so more) heat in it. He went out a little lame (just a little 'short' on that leg).
Would you call the vet? Do you think he has done any significant damage? Do you think he'd be better in or out? Normally I would box rest him, however I think it may have swollen due to being in. Also I wanted to cold hose it this morning but all the hoses were frozen (damn weather) so I wetted a towel and held that on it to reduce the swelling a bit - is this a suitable substitute?
I don't think I could cope with any more health problems with my horses after loosing River and my 'riding' horse being out of action for 8 months now :-s
I've thrown the hay nets away and ordered a hay bar, he's a very accident prone horse - frequently over reached and cut himself (even with boots on) and gets into fights with other horses. Its SO frustrating I'm genuinely starting to feel like I am cursed with him & I should just give up on the idea of being able to ride again!
A nice ice melting hot choccie for all if you got this far!
