I have had my trailer for sale in local tack shops for a few weeks now, with no interest. So I put it on Ebay last Sunday to finish tonight. I did put on the listing that it was advertised elsewhere, so hold the right to end the listing if it was sold.
So, I had about 6 watching by today, then someone phoned this morning to come and see it. She came out, offered me the asking amount of the ads in the shop, and all was fine.
I came straight home and wrote in big bright red letters that apologies to all interested, but the trailer has been sold privately, so please do not bid as I will not accept it.
2 hours later, the listing was just about to end, and someone bid!!! So, what do I do???

I think the only thing you can do is contact the Ebay bidder and explain the situation. If it has 'sold' to them you'll have their phone number- might be easier to explain over the phone rather than by message. They can give you negative feedback, not sure what else they can do though. Good luck!

Ideally, you should have ended the listing, not just amended it, as if people have something on their watch list they may not really see the listing again when they go on to bid.

However - too late now. I would mail the bidder, explaining the situation, and hope they are understanding. The worst they can do is report you as a non-performing seller, which is a nuisance, but I don't think it affects much until you have three of those against your name.

She can also leave you bad feedback, but leave polite and sensible follow up and you will be fine. Remember - it's not the end of the world, just a red dot on an internet site :)

Why did u not remove the listing?
I suggest u contact the bidder and let them know they have not won the trailer after all, and do this before they pay for it !
Ebay can see u have logged on, so no excuse for not informing them straight away.
Teach them to read lol :D

I tried to remove the listing this morning, but because I had put a starting price, it said I couldnt stop it.
I have heard now from the lady that bid for it, she seems quite understanding, and we have cancelled the transaction. Doesnt stop me feeling really bad about it though!

If you clearly stated you had it listed elsewhere and reserve the right to end the listing etc etc

If I was going to bid on such a big item I would have probably have contacted you anyway to check you would have sold it to me.

As long as you let them know you tried to delist it.

I think if you only had a starting price with NO BIDs then it should have been easy to remove the advert however if you had a bid on it then no you shouldnt have been able to remove it.

Wouldnt worry too much, you havent run off with her money.

you could of cancelled the bids.u need to send the woman a cancel transaction dispute so u can get your final value fees back and this may also prevent her from leaving you a negative feedback.you cant leave her one as you are a seller nor leave her a positive negative as ebay will remove it.its a bummer sellers cant leave negatives or neutrals anymore.anyway thats off the topic.leave her positive feedback though aswell even just through politeness to the situation.

I THINK (not 100% sure) but If you have less than hours 8 or so hours before listing ends you cannot remove the listing. Not sure of the exact time limit. Ive tried to remove something and havent been able too.Same with amending it.

Yes this is right, not sure of the amount of time though, think it's possibly 12 hours, I remember trying to stop something myself and I couldn't because of this time limit.

Wouldn't worry too much as someone else said, you haven't run off with her money.

This goes from bad to worse! I have sorted ebay out, and the transaction has been cancelled. Just had a call from the private buyer who says sorry, I cant get the money together so not having the trailer!!!!! Do you ever feel like tearing your hair out??

oh what a nightmare! can you not get back in touch with the ebay buyer ans see if they are willing to make an offer privately, bit naughty as far as ebay would be concerned but hey ho, they make enough money ;)

Well thats what I was thinking about doing, but I think I need a lot of bare faced cheek to do it!!!!!

Go for it , ring the ebayer and she can only say no thanks. If they were understanding about it shouldnt be a prob. They wont have found another by now I would have thought

It is against Ebay's T&Cs to put that you will withdraw it if it sells elsewhere. It is an auction and once listed, unless you put a reserve, you must sell to the highest bidder.

Lesson 1: ALWAYS take a reasonable deposit!

^^ This.
Personally I would never bid on something where the seller says 'Advertised elsewhere I reserve the right blah blah'. That defeats the point of an auction and the seller is basically saying it this looks like it will go for a song I will pull it mate! I am not saying that was your attitude, bit you should either sell privately or on the ebay classifieds not via auction so everyone has a a fair chance to view and buy.

just explain to the ebayer that you are very sorry but its no longer for sale. Apparently ebay has changed the rules so buyers cannot leave negative feedback abotu sellers -not sure how true that is

Nooo!! Just explain they didnt come up with the cash and ask her- she can either say yes and your both happy or no and its not like you will probably ever see her again anyway! nothing to loose!

Yes, but I'm afraid this is a bit of a 'what goes around comes around'. I think you are going to have to tough it out and phone her back. Good luck - nightmare!

hi again i sell on ebay as living so can give u some advice.you could swallow your pride and offer it to the lady who won it (but didnt) or you could just relist it and let the auction run to the very end.offer cash on collection with a £50 to be paid after the auction via paypal.never accept full payment for it via paypal as you will have alot of fees to pay out and buyers can actually say item not as described which can result in them keeping the item and you loosing all your money (popular paypal scam).or you could put it on preloved site free of charge (which ebay own).let me know if you need anymore help.good luck.

This. And if someone reports you, ebay will remove your listing and slap your wrists.

I would email original buyer and offer to them, if they don't want it then re-list.
