Well, I changed her feed to Weight Gain, with Alpha Oil, Calm and Condition and a couple of cups of Topline cubes in her ball. She is now not my lovely quiet laid back TB, she has turned into a wild fizzy beastie!!!!!!!

So, Plan B. Baileys Outshine supplement, Topline Cubes and Baileys no 1 Cereal????

Anyone any experience of Plan B and did it fizz your horse up?

She is looking good thou!!

You should try making small changes, rather than big one's, then you can eliminate whatever product did not help.

You are mixing all sorts of stuff together, when you only need to use one of any of these products, just decide what you are trying to achieve and stick with it.

Why don't you just talk to a feed company and get their recommendations, you are wasting money feeding this way.

You should deffo stick to just one feed, that helps put weight on - like someone else said, feeding loads of different feeds generally doesnt work any better and you are just wasting money! If she can be fizzy go for a feed that has a low starch level (less than 20%) i think Spillers Conditioning Cubes are quite low. Feed her the recommended of these along with a conditioning chaff (Alfa A oil etc) if necessary.

I found TopSpec works fab for my boy, Conditioning flakes and Balancer. The balancer is a bit pricey but works a treat and he's always come out of winter looking as good as he went in since he's been on it. He's never been hot on it and it also gives a lovely shine to his coat. He's TB x Welsh D.

Sorry but have to agree with the others, you are feeding alot of different feeds. My TB who suffered with weight gain and staying laid back is on Calm and Condition and Graze On, with a small amount of Soya Oil, she is looking good, but not fizzy or sharp. Also I tend to avoid cereals with her. In winter my girl also has Winergy Equilibrium Medium Energy, this is just to give her that bit extra as she hunts.

If you are going to change her feed I would change it very slowly and also speak to the various feed companies. Weight gain will not happen overnight.

Ditto! A&P weight gain is 45% starch!!! Baileys Topline Cubes 26%! (did a lot of research about this with a previous horse) I ended up phoning Spillers and brought Slow Release Energy cubes as they didn't contain any cereals, but were high in oil, and they put weighht on without fizz. why not phone a few feed companies?

I would have stuck with original feed and fed speedibeet (unless that made her fizzy) and linseed and fenugreek which is good for condition and muscle development. If needed (and again if does not make her fizzy) I would have added soya oil.

she would have also been on good grazing and adlib hay/haylage.

My anglo is a very poor doer and extremely highly strung and was a coat rack when I got him. Got the weight on with a combination of the above as well as splitting the meals up into 3 or 4 a day instead of 2 huge meals that he couldnt easily digest. Now he is on the portly side have had to cut out all oil and reduce feed and he is still fat.

Never heard of Fenugreek? will look into that one. She is on very good grazing during the day and in at night (she won't stay out at night) and Ad lib haylage from a haybar when she is in.

Thanks for everyones input.

You can it with linseed from Equus - I order it from mile end equestrian supplies. Mine love it and it makes their coats really shine.

Try speedibeet rather than anything cereal based. I feed speedibeet, alfa a oil and pony nuts. For a pep up I feed a bowl of readigrass and/or a balancer. Alongside ab lib hay. Its vits/minerals that TBs lose over winter and autumn and spring!! I use Pink Powder at these times too to help the gut whilst thier diet/routine changes.

NB....speedibeet doesnt have the mollasis in so doesnt send TBS loopy and none of them have cereal!!!

Also divide your feed up!! You can feed up to 2.5kg of Alfa A oil a day to a 16hh so split it between 3 or 4 feeds. It helps weight gain.

If confused as to what pony nuts/mix to buy get laminitis safe stuff...its low in cereal and sugars which give your horse its exciteable side!

Mine are pone to tying up as well as weight loss!! Boo!!

Current TB type is on Spillers conditioning cubes (which I intend to change soon as he's becoming a fatty) Mollichop, cod liver oil and garlic powder. Cheap and its done the job

Last TB type was on the same, apart from Spillers slow release.

I try to stick to one hard feed, and one chaff. Keep things simple.
