hmmm, what do you think?

Our 'pets at home' store is within walking distance of our local Tesco store, which is exactly the sort of place that an idea like this would be attempted. Tesco 'jack of all trades, master of none'. They can't manage to keep their food customers happy round here, I certainly wouldn't let them near my dog.

Smacks of desperation to me. We successfully opposed Tesco' s plans to open a chemist' s in their store here which might have put our local chemist at risk of closure. They have no intention of integrating into the local community and providing a useful service. About time the locals put some sticks in the wheels of their 'empire building'. Getting bigger but not better all the time is the name of their game as well as riding roughshod over farmers who supply them. You can tell I love them!

I wouldn't use it (prefer to stick with my groomer of 20 years) but suppose it might suit some people - I know of several poodle crosses around who could use a decent grooming. Would they do evening/weekend grooming, I wonder? That might be helpful. My groomer doesn't work evenings or weekends and I have to take time of work to get my dog gone.

I'd never use a supermarket groomer or Pets at Home, where the dogs howl constantly. Tesco is also next door to PAH in Watford. It's good to see they're making an effort to incorporate other clothing store-theirs seem to have gone down the pan recently.

However, Asda has a shoe shop, my bank, a key cutting/shoe repair shop, holiday shop. I don't think there's any competition. If I want a range of shopping, I only have to go to Asda, except ,eat which I find is really poor there and they don't seem to do free range meat.

Well if it stops people tying thneir dogs up outside it can only be a good thing. I work for Tesco and this week alone there has a been a lovely young golden retriever and a choc lab puppy tied up outside, and every week there is a very distressed border collie. So, if people would get them groomed instead then go for it.

Personally I would not take my dog there. Dog grooming is very breed specific and personal to the owner as to how they prefer their dogs/cats to be groomed. My dog groomer knows my dog and that she can be nervous being around strangers so I will stick with her thanks.
if people have lost interest in the store then they should think of things like cookery classes, hiring out shelves so small businesses can display/ sell their products as tesco supermarkets really just sell generic products people can get anywhere and I find their electrical departments terrible.

Ok, I understand the desire to diversify if this does happen. Personally I don't think that any groomer should be used as a dog sitter LOL - that's not what they train and qualify for.

I can only imagine that they would build a purpose built salon with a separate entrance, and hopefully use trained and maybe? qualified groomers. But that would be very expensive and time consuming to find those people. So then would they be willing to charge a high rate that these expensively qualified persons would need?

Personally, I think that having a big box store, not even associated with the pet industry, just undermines groomers and what they work hard to achieve. It makes sense with PaH at least, and I know some very very talented PaH and former PaH groomers so don't assume that they all just do a hashy bashy job. But grooming is still unregulated, which means that anyone can go out with a set of clippers and go make a go of it. Scary really.

Personally, I'd rather see the pharmacy within Tesco!

Not a fan of Tescos but glad to see them stocking better quality dog food such as Lilys Kitchen, cant see this dog grooming malarky taking off tbh.

They don't though - they stock a cheaper budget version that is only marginally better quality than any of the others.

I wondered about that myself. I have bought the occasional tin of their food, it smells vile and my dogs won't go near it, and they're greedy *******!
