I'm having a major clear out. I was about to list on EBay some brown leather long field boots. They are lovely boots but I just don't wear them because they are pull on without a zip (which is a total pain) & IMO a bit 'fuddy duddy old fashioned'
Now I know you can get a zip put up the back of a boot but looking at the boots I was wondering if it was worth getting a cobbler to put a zip & strap up the front to turn them into a Polo boot style....something I would definitely wear!
So they look like this
http://www.pologearusa.com/browse.cfm/boot-polo-zip/4,756.html

Do you think it can be done? Personally I can't see any reason why not & the price tag will be a lot less than the £500+ I've been looking at for new boots

Why not? I thought at first you wanted to put a zip in to sell them (thought that was a lot of effort!).

A shoemaker will tell you if it won't work, rather than massacre your boot!

If you get it done, I'd be interested to see before and after pictures :)

If they look fuddy duddy without a zip, I don't think they will look much better with a zip in them.
Plus I think they will cost a lot of money to have a zip in them.

Ok, called the cobbler who has done repairs for me before.
He says putting the zip up the front of the boot isn't an issue & actually easier than putting it up the back.
Putting the strap across the top isn't an issue but that leather might be slightly different in colour initially.
He thinks he might have to be a bit clever when it comes to hiding where the lace holes are & that is where he thinks he might have problems but he should be able to do it.
I'm popping in tomorrow morning with the boots & have my legs measured so he can tweak the fit as well to make them perfect.
Cost should be around £40

I'm just going to take 'before' pics now will update with 'after' when they are done :)

Sorry I should've explained I think they look old fashioned because they are a pull on field boot with laces. I'm not a fan of the laces.
