Hi,

I have a 6yo Bavarian warmblood X whom had a level 4 left sided laryngeal paralysis. He had a hobday and tie back operation and all has healed well. He had 5 weeks box rest and then was turned out again. He then did 2 weeks walk work and has stated trotting this week. I was wanting any advice on how to bring hime back to full fitness safely, to maximise the chance that the operation will be a success as it's not something I can afford to do again!!! I know similar questions have been posted before but it is the fittening information that I really need to know!

Any help would be appreciated
Hannah

After six weeks barn rest I walked mine for a week, walked and trotted for a week and then went back to cantering short stretches and building up and he was fully fit within two months and has never looked back.

i would suggest you do a fitness programme similar to bringing a half fit hunter back up to full fitness.ie trot for the next 2 weeks increasing in time, introduce short canters, building work up slowly. longer canters and wind work 8 weeks after starting working again.. Your vet should be able to advise you, and it is always a good idea to get a check up halfway/threequarters of the way up the fitness regime.
