interested in what the future holds- is the horse now classed as sound, what effects will it have, will a tie-back be required later, would horse pass a vetting???
ta.x

whilst not strictly just a hobday my horse had both a tie back and a hobday!! IME the hobday is done if the paralysation isnt a top grade 5 and is low grade!! Any large horses are at risk from either having this condition undelying or at potential of the condition arising, usually only affects one side due to the length of the nerve on the left side not being long enough in a taller horse, but im sure you know this already. I had my horse both tiebacked and hobdayed as he was grade 5 and bred/bought to go eventing, without the op he wouldnt have been able to cope with the gallops (basically). If i wanted him for dressage or showjumping i may not of had the op done!!

In short the horse has had a 'successful' tie back and is currently fit for purpose, no vet either passes or fails horses these days but would need to mention conditions such as this on the vetting imo, then its down to insures and buyers! In my mind any large horse would concern me in that, there is always the potential complications in the wind dep and would consider this when buying a large horse anyway!! Hope that helps a bit!x

thanks- i'm looking at a horse thats had a successful hobday op last yr, i'm looking to do rc stuff etc, just bit concerned that he would need a tie back down the line??

i think if you like the horse there is no reason at all that he shouldnt be able to do all you ask, some top event horses and race horses have had wind ops of some kind, as its done generally to gain optimum performance. If it was me i would have the horse endoscoped when you have it vetted to ensure that all is as well as it could be imo !!

my mates horse had that op, he failed his vetting on other stuff, no mention of the op. the only thing i noticed after was that he had a really weird neigh!
