know nothing about it really, is it serious, why is it done, is the horse classed as sound afterwards, would it pass a vetting, would a tie-back op still have to be done in future??
ta.x
My tb had one when he was racing - quite severe and was thought to have been done in the us before he came over .From what we can piece together he had it probably because he basically ran out of puff but we don't know for sure. Passed a vetting but it is mentioned on the certificate and you can't insure for it. Worth shopping around insurance wise to get the most specific cover you can as some companies exclude the whole respiratory system because but you can get cover for issues arising from the hobday op. Doesn't cause any day to day issues but they are more prone to resp infections thankfully in two years have only had to had anti- b's for it once and it was v mild . Also he can't have his dinners too watery or eat sugar beet otherwise it tends to come back out his nose - not v pleasent!!!!
Another side effect is that he can't neigh/whinney anymore and just sort of squeaks .
He has affilated at bsja since he had it ,raced for about 3 yrs but was crap but this was more the horse than anything wrong health wise. He is better the fitter he is so I keep him in work 6 days a week and we jump, lots of canter work ,the odd gallop and lots of schooling .
