In need of some advice regarding my two ginger creatures otherwise may go slightly insane!!! First off my 17.2hh was very quiet on monday ie didn't try to bite or kick me !!! was laying down in the field, not grazing and just generally not himself so bought him in and took temp which was nearly 41c so vet came out initially thought it was colic even though it wasn' typical presentation. Even though he was so listless he still had a go at kicking when she tried to do a rectal so she gave him a v v small dose of sedative which he promptly had an allergic reaction to - thought he was on his way out!! hyperventalating, uncoordinated and very dozy. She injected antibiotics and left me with some danilon. He was also bloodtested and the results came back the next day showing that everything was working fine ie kidney, liver etc but he had low red blood cells and high white blood cells. She then injected him again with antibiotics and also something called haemo15(i think) b vits, iron etc and told me to give one more day of injectable antibiotics and another four days of danilon. He has also been given a course of ventapulmin as the only outwards signs of anything is a slight cough (I wouldn't consider it anything too extreme for a 22year old who hasn't had soaked hay for most of his life) my concern is that even though he has started eating again he still seems very quiet and dull and his temp is still a little high for example he has had 2 danilon morning and evening but when I take his temp am and pm it is up at around 39.5c but when I take it at lunchtime it is normally between 37.5c-38c. She is coming out again on Monday but there are no real starting places for investigation. My concern is that there is some relation between the low red and high white blood cells and the drugs that he is on at the moment are masking somehting and not in fact making it better. Now for ginger neddy number two - bought him about nine months ago was aware of that fact that he had had an op on his throat(he is an ex racer) it's never caused any issues until sunday when he has his dinner like normal and about 50% came straight back down his nose. In the week previous to this he also had developed a cough but it wasn't repetative and there was no nasal discharge. So he went in for a scope which he was very calm about apart from initially going into the stocks which he wasn't v keen on !! He has quite alot of mucous and food matter in the top part of his lungs and his trachea was inflammed. Also turns out that he hasn't had a tieback like previously thought but has had a hobday and that it is quite an aggressive one. So another one on ventapulmin and norodine to try and give his lungs a bit of a boost. The vet told me to try different food types to try and decrease the liklihood of food entering his lungs but I don't really know where to start with this so any suggestions would be much appreciated as would any for any of the many questions that I ahve bought up in this thread!! Cookies, wine and dairy milk if you have made it
