Has anyone any experiences with a young horse with hock artritis (bone spavin) ? cob who is rising 6 has been diagnosed with narrowing of the joints although the lameness is very slight it has caused alot of ridden issues.
She is undergoing treatment for her stifle at present (just been injected) and is due to have her hock done in 3 weeks time. The vet is optimistic she will come back into work sound.

Anyone with similar?

I have a 7 yr old TB with bone spavin and arthritis . Was diagnosed at 5 and I was very concerned. Had one set of injections into his hocks which were successful then and has been going well since rehab . Did have corrective hind shoes to begin with but only for about 6 months. Needs a good warmup before schooling etc but moves well now and have never had any comments about stiffness in dressage or showing. Has done ODE , loves to jump, looking forward to show jumping him this season. Anything else you want to know please PM me.

not as of yet, however having read your threads i am more and more suspect.

Mine has had ufo since a yearling and is getting increasingly hardtop school on the left rein, the worst stifle with UFP, she also bashed her hock at some point on the same leg which is still quite swilled, vet came the other day to do teeth so had a look and was slightly lame on a circle on the hard ground and was lame on the straight after flexion although due to the way you do the flexion you cannot distinguish between stifle and hock, waiting to hear back from vet/insurance as to how we proceed. she is also only rising 6

having said that though i rode a horse who had sever spavins among other things before the age of 10, vet at the time said he shouldn't be walking let alone still competing as he was, he had them treated and still competed to medium/points to advanced but the hocks meant he found flying changes hard - still competed with me at elem before retiring at 18 when everything caught up with him:)

*UFP not ufo!

This sounds re-assuring :) i want to do a bit of dressage low level and some showing classes aswel as some light jumping and hacking. Really hoping she will be able to do all these things! i guess time will tell
