About 8 weeks ago my boy escaped from the field and fell on concrete putting a large hole in his knee and in his hock. Both wounds were deep and were treated straight away by the Vet. Ther hock wound in particular was nasty and was puncture underneath the skin upwards by five inches. The Vet bandaged the wound and put him on antibiotics. The wound is slowly healing and the hole has filled in. Originally the leg was very swollen, this has now all gone but his hock still remains a lot larger than his other leg. There is no heat in the leg but is it normal for the hock to still be large? Is it due to scar tissue and will it eventually go down when the wound has completly healed? Just want some advice on what to expect with him as I really do worry!

I would hazard a guess that its scar tissue, check with your vet. It may shrink in time and as your horse gets back into work. If the wound was particuarly deep as you say then it would make sense that thats what it is. As you say its slow healing so I guess you will just have to give it time to get better. Maybe a bit of cold hosing could help? Good luck
