Here is my husband's 'slightly ginger' cob, Highlander. We have had him 8 years now, and I've done everything on him except have a go at showing....

Sooooooo I decided that this was this years task with him.

He had an awful straggly mane though, and no matter what we did, it wouldn't grow, or plait! Sooooooooo finally after 8 years, OH consented to having him hogged!

I think it suits him, and once I've gotten rid of those lil scurfy bits that hide in manes, I think he will look the business.

First show will be 9th June, a charity event that has a ridden cob class.

I don't own fancy tack, but he DOES have a lovely hunting bridle with wide noseband, so he can wear that with his fancy browband, but the wintec saddle will have to do! I've got a rugby pelham, so that will do with double reins.

I don't own a double-bridle, but if I enjoy it, and he does well, then I'll consider investing in some proper kit, like a double-bridle and a show-saddle.

Here he is! should have taken a before and after...didn't think!

He's a babe, but very naughty! :D

I forgot to ask....what does one do in a cob class, do a mini show like walk, trot, canter etc? Does one gallop? Highlander doesn't know what gallop is, it's too strenuous! :D

Hunter bridle with pelham and double reins sounds perfect, but he should have a plain leather browband.

He does look very smart and I love the stripey fleece rug, I keep hoping that I'll find a bargain one in the right size. ;)

I love traditional hogged Cobs and he is a fab example, really suits him and looks proper. I think the plain tack will add to the effect. He's a Super Lad.

Many thanks all!

....and the rug was actually altered to fit by my fab sis-in-law, it was miles too big but I bought it as it was brand new and had never been worn! A super bargain! I also got a matching exercise rug at the same time...

I'll keep in mind the plain brow band, does it matter what colour jacket I wear?

Just been discussing with DD about Uni etc and the probability of us scrapping over the pone when she's wanting to claim her back after her studies... I've just given prior warning to hubby that handsome cob like your boy that I can hog and take out to parties is top of my list.:)

:D

Out hunting, I turned down £5,000 for him, I've hunted most of my younger life, and he is without a doubt, the safest horse I've ever been out on...

What a lovely noble head. Is there a touch of shire in there ?

We've always thought he is half dinosaur! He's a Highland X so yes, could be!

Really smart DS, love his colour. What make rug is that?

Tis a Rambo :D

He's stunning!!! Keep him hogged looks so smart :D u'll do great at shows with a stunner like that x

Thanks! I suppose I've waited a long time to actually show him properly, but have done everything else, x-country (though he prefers the pairs, he likes to follow) hunting, a bit of trec but gave up on endurance, he's just too much hard work! Prefers long rides in company! Tried a bit of stressage once or twice, but he's hard work to get on the correct right canter lead, and as i'm not really serious on stressage, couldn't really be arsed to keep trying...!

love a handsome hogged cob:D and he's damn handsome;)

Cheers!

He is gorgeous :D :D

Yes indeed :D

He is yummy! as someone else said...LOVE HIS EARS! He looks like he could be cheeky! :D

Oh yes...

When we were at our old livery yard, when we first got him, we took the discovery into the field as we were repairing a fence and had all the tools in the boot...

He peeled the rubber off all wipers, scratched his teeth on the wing mirrors, smashed all lights etc by crunching on them, and dented the door by rubbing his bum on it...OH cried...haha!

After two hefty vets bills for choke, he now gets his feed in 'soup' form, so he can be a pig without danger!

When we got to the field we have now, he FORCED himself through a MASSIVE hedge and decided to go walkabouts around the village. No-one could get near him, not even my instructor! OH was closest so when the calls came, he trundled along, and the police officer apparently howled with laughter, because when OH shouted his name, he trotted along quite happily and followed him back into the field!

These are just a couple of tales, he's caused some grief in his time, I can tell you! NEVER leave anything within his reach if you value it!

He adores being bathed with the hosepipe, and often grabs it to soak you back...

:p

LOL!! Bet he looked like butter wouldn't melt! I used to look after a welsh D with the same cheeky expression....I still have the chunk of boot rubber missing from my car!! (I left the boot open too close to the fence). He had to be brought in when they took tractors in the field as he would keep standing in front of them as they tried to drive!

He used to get into every building....the best thing he did was pick up the hose in his mouth....then ran off with 30 m of hose chasing him!!

Love your cob....bet he is a joy to have (minus the vets bills!) enjoy your showing.
