After nearly having been thrown off my safe bombproof reliable cob today when a fly got under his fly mask out on a hack, I have decided we need to take some drastic action.
The accident I had with the wheelbarrow last week having left me partially disabled with a torn ligament at my sacro-iliac joint, I thought if I could just get onto my comfy old sofa of a horse, I could perhaps manage a lesuirely hack.
No so.... the flies were so bad despite the Jungle formula and Deet all over us, he almost threw himself on the floor going mental trying to squash the fly in his mask, and I got chucked out the side door while attempting to get off him, and have now got a wrenched shoulder as well.
So has anyone tried
"Think Fly" - does it really work?
Your opinions please.

There is most definately some types of weather and times of day when it's just not worth even trying to ride, imo.

I use a fly spray that contains deet. But still find we're bothered by flies to a certain degree even then. I would imagine tha tthe horse would have to be covered from head to feet not to be bitten........

We used it last year and when I compare then to now I think it made an enormous difference, but the loading period is long (and necessary) and it costs an arm and a leg (I think we spent £300 for a full season for 3 horses). We're going to try Global Herbs Flyfree. We also used Spot-On this year but one of the horses had a reaction to it (4 days of runny eyes and nose and frantically twitching withers!) so he won't be getting it again

At the moment I'm just looking forward to the winter!

I have used Think Fly and it didn't make any noticeable difference - but there again the weather was so different last year (very wet) that it is impossible to compare with this year. My local tack shop tells me that different sprays/methods work on different flys thats why some products work one year but not the next ... but that could just be a good excuse?!

I think maybe we will just go for lots of garlic then, and as Burnttoast says "just looking forward to winter"

You know we wait all Winter long huddled by the fire, nursing or chilblains and chapped lips, wishing for the long days of summer and ceasation of horizontal rain and force 8 winds, no grass and manky hay and then its here and we realise we forget
about the bloody flies
Roll on Autumn, the best part of Summer!
