Anyone done this? I have a small DIY livery yard but am due to get the school resurfaced and would like to generate some income from it!

Looked in to the insurance and it's not as shocking as i thought it might be...

Any top tips or warnings?!

:)

have you thought about clinics they require a lot less time and a nice way to make a proifit too. you dont have to worry as much about parking etc, or speak to your local Rinding club they may be interested in usung it

Yes, we held small shows at my parents farm, and the yard I'm at now does a few every now and then. They are fun to do.

The public liability insurance is important to have now.

If you do jumping it is advisable to have a first aid presence, but if you just do a showing show or dressage, there is less risk so it would be up to you to decide if you think you need it or not.

In event management the advice is to have 1 toilet provided per 100 people at events, but a lot of shows I've been to provide less than that.

The most difficult part that we found is rallying enough people together so that it runs smoothly, as everyone wants to compete themselves, but you might not have that problem!

If you enjoy doing them, and can do them regularly they will gain in popularity and soon start to become a fixture in local peoples diaries. We used to have Thursday evening shows after school, and they became hugely popular.

Hi, I organize about 3 shows a year for the yard I'm on but it's only for people on my yard, I'm not sure about insurance?
I know the yard is covered for public liability and a yard rule is that your horse has to be insured so I'm sure we are covered but I'm organizing a show for the end of July and the YO suggested inviting a couple of local yards to join in.
I'm not sure about the insurance or if on the program wording like "The Organizers are not responsible for any loss or damage to persons, animals or vehicles", "Entry to the show is at your risk" also things like "hats must be worn when mounted"?

Anyway, i organizes simple things like Equitation, Best Turned Out and Games.
The kids love it...We call them Funday Sundays!!!

Games include, Walk, trot, canter, lead. Egg and spoon race, Bucket and ball, Musical mats, Jelly baby race, Chase me charlie, pole balance, jelly jumping and horse and hound.

It's all a bit of fun and i only charge £3 per game and £5 for the equitation and Best Turned Out. I buy rosettes from Ebay and trophys and i always have a bucket of sweets so everyone gets something. The money covers things that i have to buy like the sweets, jelly, rosettes etc

It's nice as many people on the yard don't have transport or a horse/pony good enough to compete off the yard.

In the summer we have a BBQ at the end of the day...people bring tents, kip in their stables or horse boxes.

At Christmas we have fancy dress and at Easter a egg hunt.

It's hard work and i don't make much money out of it but i think it's nice when the yard gets together.
