hi, my gelding has a hole in his hoof, its direcly opposite the frog, by the shoe (underside of hoof). he did have a hoof absess last year in this hoof, but this hole has been around a week maybe? hes not lame, showing no heat, sighns of discomfort etc, farrier is coming next week to re shoe anyway and hooves havnt been great this summer due o mad weather, should i b worried or wait till farrier comes and ask him?

im not sure how to read your post, is it the outside of the hoof or underfoot? i had a panic with mine 3 weeks ago and i begged the farrier to come out. he told me it was absolutely nothing to worry about and highly common at the moment cos of the rain - boggy ground then sun - hard clay etc etc damaging / rotting the hoof. im no farrier so cant comment on whether yours is the same problem but feel free to pm me a pic? i stopped riding for a few days too (hell for me) and then discovered there was absolutely no need, just needed the farrier to re-align the nails from the shoe doh!

I think the hole was caused by the abscess and as horse is in no pain I wouldn't worry
