I was just wondering how others cope if they ever go away and need help looking after their horses. I am on a DIY yard and am wondering what to do when we go on our honeymoon in the summer. Are there companies that do holiday cover? How do you find experienced, trustworhty people? Its difficult trusting a stranger with your horses

Could you get a friend on your yard to keep an eye on your horse for you? When I go away, Charlie is always out on grass in the summer and one of my friends will keep an eye for me. I do the same for her when she goes away. I always pin a contact list on my stable door of who to contact if they cant get hold of me.

Depends on the people on your yard, In the past I have asked another girl on the yard to look after him or a family member. As its summer assuming they will be living out, not too much of an ask and you can always offer to return the favour!
At least you have got plenty of time to weigh up your options, or maybe you can find someone locally to you to look after them, you have plenty of time to get to know/vet them.

Ask around and see if anyone your friends know do house sitting/horse care. I've done house-sitting/horse sitting for people... whether the horse is at their home or not.

At our yard other liveries will help out if they can- I know a couple of liveries that would do it and I would do the same for them.
There are a folk that you can pay to come look after your horse in this area so presume you must have similiar.Would ask about for recommendations to see who would be best if go down this route and also would ask a livery to keep an eye on horse to ensure things are getting done.Have known one or two wouldn't let near a rocking horse never mind my own one.

I would do that but theres only 1 other and she has enough to do really. They (2) generally come in at night all year round and arent used to staying out so not sure i could leave out and 1 has trouble keeping off the weight, so would need mucking out, hay, water etc.

We do swapsies with friends which works well enough. One of my friends also does livery duties for other liveries as and when they need it.

I'd go on word of mouth to find a suitable person if there is no one on your yard you could ask to cover for you. There are freelancers out there :) Hope you get it sorted and have a fab honeymoon :)
