Just pondering as I am in need of some cash, have spare stables but dont want to do proper livery again after the problems I had.

So if you were to go away but didnt know what to do with the horses would you consider putting them on this?

I would basically offer full livery for the week - two weeks you would be on holiday. Full care on a secure yard, with plenty of grazing, stabling if necessary. Could also ride horse to keep fitness if wanted.

If you would do something like this, what else if anything else would you expect and how much would you pay for this.

Thanks!

We have actually made use of this sort of service in the past. When our foal had ihis accident and had to come in with his mother we didn't know what to do with the father, by now a gelding! He had never been separated from Gypsy and we were very worried about how he would react to being left out alone but didn't have the facilities to bring him or other horses to put him out with. We had a local yard that did holiday/short term livery and arranged for him to go there for a couple of weeks whilst foalie recovered, he was turned out with other horses and quickly settled into his new temporary home. I also think you may find a market with people between yards or desperate to get off a yard but having to wait for a place. You might also want to think about retirement livery or such like, or for people that don't have the time to see their horses as much as they should even to check them over (not ideal I know but we all know horses that are not seen by owners for days on end).

I think there is definitely a place in the market for places that take short term liveries, the full livery may put a financial limit on the type of customers you get, we couldn't have afforded that at the time but also didn't expect to treat the place like our own yard or do anything with him whilst he was there other than basic checks and cuddles.

I guess it depends on peoples circumstances but I would have thought it easier to pay someone to look after your horses at their usual location. Might be an option for some though, I'd pay £7.50 for a days job service so you could charge maybe £10 per day per horse?

i wouldn't move my horses for a week or 2 and would rather have a petsitter come and look after them on the regular yard.

I have used this type of service as my horses are at home and I have put the ones who needed to maintain fitness while I was away on business or holiday into temporary livery. Its a great service.

My horses are used to getting out and about and very often have sleepovers at friend's houses or away at shows etc so they take it all in their stride so I have no qualms about routine upsets etc.

I would not be sure of UK prices I am afraid but advertise the service I am sure you would do well.

I would deffo use a service like this as I think with freelance ' help' you run the risk of your horses being fitted around other things the person is doing whereas on a yard there is a normally the same routine as at home.

I had someone doing service for me at one place and the horses were seen to anywhere from 11am to lunchtime. Not acceptable IMO and never again.

I would be more inclined to pay someone to come to my yard and do the horses in their usual routine. Im sure there are people that would be interested though. Good luck
