Holiday or Horse...is OH right???

I doubt for a minute that there's anything wrong with your relationship. You've just been wearing dressage-legal underwear for too long. Get yourself down to M&S and he'll be trawling the internet for you in no time! (Go shopping before hols)

Didn't think you needed to be married these days?

I thought being together that long entitles you to half anyway, plus with the kids etc

I could be wrong tho...

You are wrong. I'd love to know where these ideas come from. Unless the house is also in her name she would most likely get nothing as things currently stand. If they were married she would probably get more than 50% of the house and perhaps even maintenance for her as well as for the children.

I would say if it's all his money then it goes on the holiday I'm afraid. I would suggest you start saving your own money and maybe ask your OH to match it. Your OH might be more amenable to going 50:50 on a horse. Also you need funds in reserve for emergencies incase you get a suprise vets bill or something. Horses can be money pits and it will take the sting out of it if you can help pay your way.

I think you should gain some independance with your finances - as you say, start saving a bit for yourself. I would never allow myself to be in this position (although I don;t have kids, but again tis is probably the reason I dont.....)

I work full time and keep my horses myself, I earn more than my OH and therefore pay more into the house. I NEVER have to rely on his to help me with horses/vets bills etc. Maybe this says something about me but I want to know that I can manage alone if need be - I knwo this sounds negative but you never know what might happen and I WILL keep my horses whatever happens (hence still owning my first pony and first horse 25 and 30yrs!)
