im looking for ideas (pref ornkney) where hubby and I can go with our 6 dogs for a short break. The dogs all sleep in the truck and are well used to it - a farm b&b would be great, or a small cottage/chalet to rent? but nothing in a 'complex' with neighbouring chalets... bound to be non-doggy types next door knowing our luck

thanks in advance

I have no clue where Orkney is lol. But we took 13 dogs (and a parrot!) to Cornwall (near Perranporth) last November. We had a 2 bed cottage that was only £25 per night and the dogs were able to sleep in with us. It certainly wasnt 5 star luxury, but it was clean and spacious and the dogs loved it!!

If that might be an option for you i can dig up the website for the cottages :)

Holiday?......... Six dogs?.............. Thats like oil and water!

Sorry, can't help with accommodation ideas other than googling.

ok, well - we went on honeymoon round the hebrides with 6 dogs, staying in b&b's along the way. it took a lot of planning though - and i hoped someone on here might save me the leg work. it is possible though:)

thank you so much, bit far though.... you've seriously never heard of orkney, as in the islands off northern scotland?

My idea of a worthwhile holiday is leaving the hounds with mother-in-law, jetting off to some far distant, stinking hot corner of heaven on earth!.......... and getting a great tan!

ooh no, never ever leave my dogs with anyone... we'd prob get back and find the babysitters tied, gagged and shackled in the kennels.lol

Try the Isle of Bute. It's beautiful and warm (on the gulf stream) with lots of walking etc. It's less than hours journey (road and ferry) from Glasgow.

We went a good many years ago but we rented a cottage at Rothesay castle (I think it was) and got a 4 bedrooms cottage with a HUGE (5acres+?) walled garden, which was perfect for dogs. We had 4 with us at the time.

Ooooh I might be able to help you out on that - I know/am related to a few people up there who privately rent out dog-friendly places. What time of year were you thinking? Ooh I do love holiday planning :D

What about the Isle of Islay? We rented a massive house (6 bed, 3 bath, 2 kitchens etc) fairly cheap. could go into the conservatory and watch the seals come onto the beach in front of the house. Lots of good walks and deserted beaches! Dogs welcome :)

ooh thanks guys... any links or info?

we didnt really have any specifc time in mind.... prob over summer? hubby loves to fish, so somewhere near some decent fishing (lochs) would be good

Sorry I have no idea but can I do a mini hijack and ask UnaB if she coulld let me know the details of the cornwall place. We are looking for somewhere to take our muttley crew on holiday this year!
Good luck with your holiday, I would love to go to orkney for a break, let us know if you find a suitable doggy friendly place :D
