Does anyone know anything about this stallion? We have a new horse (bought as a hunter for my OH) by him and, after I had a brilliant day on him yesterday when he really operated over some decent-sized hedges

, I just wondered if anyone knew his sire. (He's out of an Atlantus mare btw).

A lovely bay Holstein horse of top class blodlines. He was originally graded in Germany, then stood in Denmark for a coule of seasons before being sold to stand in Cornwall where he was very popular and successful for many years. He also has twio graded sons to his credit. He died a couple of years ago but PM me for his owners details as she is a lovely freindly lady and I am sure she would be very happy to tell you more .

No there has only ever been one stallion called Lenard standing in Cornwall and that is the Holstein stallion that we are talking about. He belonged to Sue Wason (now Chairman of the BWBS) who owned and ran the Trenawin Stud where he stood for most of his life after he left Denmark, althogh I think she did lease him to a friend for a couple of years towards the end of his life.

I don't think ours has a quirky bone in his body! If anything he has a very chilled "inner calm" about him (so fits in well in our yard, where most horses are so laid back they're horizontal!)

Ciss, I've left a message for Sue so hopefully will find our more about him. Thanks for your help. Is that Penny Podmore from Norfolk who had horses Terry Boon/Steven James used to ride?

It must be as I can't imagine that there are two stallion owners with that name! However, according to her web site she now lives near Torrington in Devon and stands the stallion Fontainbleu.

I have done a few horses from this stallion and they ALL had a quirk. Very nice 'types' in terms conformation but , i found not very generous in their attitude to work.
I would'nt want another one. Hansome is as hansome does!!! Very old cornish saying and very apt here i think!!
I have a youngster by the Dutch stallion Lenard and he is a totally different kettle of fish. Jumping blood and the most smashing 3yr old i have had to do for a LONG time.

I know this thread is a few years old but i have a 18 yr old British warmblood mare called Lyric by Lenard and have we met Lenard and sue back in the 90's when brought our mare.
She has a cracking jump she is now retied (only a happy hacker), you could put any hight jump infront of her and she would jump it and she loved x-country.
BUT she did buck and my god would she turn herself inside out bucking if you wanted her to do something she didn't want to do.
She hated schooling work but was great at dressage as she has the most beautiful floating paces.
She was sort of mare who would turn it on when she wanted but if you wanted her to  unless you could make her think its all her idea ;)
She has had 3 foals so far and is about to have another one anytime now, her foals are completly different to her to ride they are very willing and have her jump and paces so make great competition horses.
Her first foal Portfolio by Trifolio (the first ever foal by him) was out of this world to ride, he has got to of been the best horse i have ever ridden.
When he was broken he was doing dressage tests within 3/4 weeks and looked better than horses that had been doing it for years.
By the time he was 6 he had done everything competed, hunted etc..
We sold him before we moved to France to some people in Devon were he went on to win every class they entered him in.
Her Selle francais filly by the TB stallion Persian Ruler was 4 in may again she was very easy to brake and like her brother is great to ride though every so often she trys to throw a paddy but tell her to pack it in and she does and gets over it.
She was broken last year at 3 as she was slower to mature and she is in foal now so she hasn't done as much as her brother did at her age but she also has the paces and the jump from her mum.
Then we have her pie bald gelding that was born last year he is cracking :D
His dad was our coloured part bred welsh stallion (we have now sold him on), he is so much like his mum in temperament he is as good as gold and sooooo laid back again he has the paces and jump from mummy.
I took him to a show a few months ago when he was 11 months old and he was the best behaved one there he even came away with a 2nd place in a up to 3yr old class (a 3yr sf gelding came first).
He had to wait around all day being held on to, he never complained or miss behaved he just got stuck in to do what he does best eating :p
We are very lucky that her "bucking quirk" stays only with her and that her foals love work and are as good at jumping and have as beautiful paces like she does, they all also have her looks as she is a stunning looking mare, she looks very much like Lenard.
We have been offered large amounts of money for her from people in France because of her looks, breeding etc.. but we have had her for 17 years and would never dream of parting with her as she means the world to us.
It seems with Lenard mares once you breed that one generation away from them the foals have such a different out look to work.

Lenard was *the* stallion to use down here for a few years. Everyone used Shaab and then they all went to Lenard!

Lenard himself was known for his lovely temp but I agree, all of the ones I have met have had their quirks. He was known for getting bolshy stock that knew their own minds. In fact when I first saw this thread that is what I thought of.I didn't know his owner but she was always known to be very helpful and friendly.

Wyn knows her own mind and is very much her own woman but having said that she has the best temp and has always been very protective of us :)
My sister used to look after Shaab back in the 90's.

I have a dark bay gelding by Lennard called Trojan - he has a few 'quirks' but he is really handsome and the most laid back boy you would ever wish to meet. People think butter wouldnt melt in his mouth, but when you get to know him you find he has a mind of his own, and he loves to entertain himself by playing with his fieldmate of whom he has scared off a few. Once I bought him and his friend a 'horseball' - they had great fun until Trojan ended up with a black eye (and me with a vets bill). He is such a good horse to handle, he was my first (and probably last) horse as I got him when I was getting on a bit, so I really appreciated his tolerant attitude to my blundering attempts to put my newly aquired horse ownership skills into practice. Its really interesting to read these posts that have appeared over several years. My trainer said that she knew of a few lennard horses around, and one who has done well in Affiliated dressage. Unlike other Lennard offspring, my horse seems to dislike jumping - maybe because he spent a few months in a riding school before I got him, (much to his horror). He soon learned to kick everything in his path over and when I tried jumping him he showed me that he also had quite a good buck and after landing on the deck a few times I chose to stick to dressage. He is 15 now, and I think he has life pretty much sussed. It would be great to hear from any of his living brothers or sisters, especially in Cornwall?

I have a 17 year old bay mare by Lenard who is called Lois Lane (yes really) who we have had since she was 4 years old. I can say now without hesitation that we would have a million more if that were possible! She is 15.2 which I belive is quite small for his offspring, my parents bought her for me when I was 13 and progessing on from ponies. Right from the start she has had the most wonderful temperament, however I might add did seem to inherit the extraordinary talent of being able to turn herself inside out should she wish to, something we later referred to as 'spinney boings'. She also had an amazing jump and was very bold Cross country, that was until faced with any kind of ditch/coffin which seemed to be her nemesis! She competed in every and any type of event over the years and could turn her hand (or hoof) to anything. She is now retired and lives in cornwall on a retirement home with a life of riley. I have been tempted on occasion to bring her back into work but feel it would be unfair after a few years away, even more tempted to breed from her because of how wonderful she has been!

I have a 15yr old Chestnut mare by Lenard. She is fantastic in everyway. She has a few quirks but nothing nasty. I can let anyone ride her and she is spot on. Fantastic showjumper. She has bred a lovely foal. When I contacted Sue Wason, she was lovely. Sue told me alot about Lenard but unfortunately he had recently been put down.

i used Lenard and bred 2 crackin foals temprement was impeccable one mare and a gelding the mare had a quirky side liked to rear when asked to much lol i sold her on she will be 16 now and still in the same home up here in scotland as i moved and bought them with me. The gelding is now 14 and he kept growin made 17.3hh but is so layed back i wouldnt part with him,and its a shame lenard is gone but still have his stallion card lol and he lives on in my boy as they do look alike
