Just recieved this email....

I entered a competition a while back... I actually cant believe this is true, I never ever win anything and this is the dream holiday for me.... I think it may be a gift from ebony....

Dear Emily

Thank you for entering our competition to win a horseback safari at the award winning Macatoo camp in the Okavango Delta, Botswana.

You will remember that the question was "Which one of the following is not one of the Big Five?" and the answer was Giraffe.

Congratulations on getting it right.

The first correct entry drawn from all the entries was Kristy Ward, who lives in Germany but is currently travelling in Australia. Well done Kristy. In due course we look forward to sharing photographs from her winning trip.

We are delighted to be able to offer you a runner up prize – a discount of £300 per person off the cost of a one week safari at Macatoo for two people. The prize is valid for new bookings until the end of 2012.

To claim your prize or if you would like more information about Macatoo please email me at xxxxxxxx or call on +xxxxxxxxx

Thank you again for entering the competition.

Kind regards

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

You are making a joke, aren't you?
These people ought to be reported for touting for business in this way. I bet the person who won the actually holiday doesn't even exist. The average price per night is probably in the region of £300 so it is going to cost you a fortune!

I Would be a bit dubious about it to be honest, the holiday might be 2k each so therefore a £300 discount isnt going to amount to much, and surely if the other winner cant take the holiday the whole prize should go to you?
but on the other hand massive congratulations if you do manage to get a good deal out of it,
I guess im just really sceptical about these things :(

I'm sorry but for what it's worth I agree with FMM. I'd bet that £300 isn't actually so much when considered against the cost of the trip, for two people anyway.

Sorry it just totally came across as being less than truthful to me.

Average cost is going to be in the region of £2000/£4000 per person for a week depending on when you go - they are truly pulling a fast one - it really should not be allowed.

I know, but its always been my dream holiday, the 1 thing that is on the top of my holiday bucket list, so I suppose if I can get £300 squid off (or maybe even wangle more...I have a plan) then why not, aaaand if its good enough for mary king.... its good enough for me :D in any case Id be going on one of these holidays... why not get a discount?

It is one of those pricey holidays that you could probably negotiate a better discount on anyway - you'd have a fab time, so rather than fanny around with these idiots, do your own thing! It serves them right if they lose business with these tactics.

Yikes so that's a whopping £300 off £430 x 7 x 2 which is over £6K plus a further £2k-ish for flights.

Sorry, I know you were excited but that is a heck of a lot of money for 7 days away!

I too am very cynical about these so called 'prizes'.

If you read the small print you often find in very small writing the fact that they are offering money off accomodation only - you may find you have to pay for flights and food.

If you are planning to go there anyway you can probably get a better deal from a decent travel agent.

QueenBee if anyone deserves their dream holiday its you. Maybe its a sign for you to make it happen. 300 quid back in your pocket for spendies say I :)
I never win anything either. I have fond memories of the last 'prize' I got - it was a Mars Bar for the kid who could throw the best tantrum...x

Pff. Not good  sorry, queenbee. Tbh, tho, I'd agree with the poster who suggested taking your money elsewhere. There are companies who'd provide the hol without resorting to a) immoral marketing and b) possibly illegal, certainly against certain codes. Aside from anything else, I wouldn't trust them, never mind feeling a bit fleeced nevertheless.

definitely go to Botswana it sounds a lovely country - just not with this company. I am sure it would be truly a holiday to remember.

Well... Im going to ring the chap up tomorrow and kick off bug time... Thats like big time only bigger! Lol! Not impressed :(

I'm a bit confused about this. I sell riding holidays, including to Macatoo, and they themselves are a very reputable destination that receive excellent reviews.

I presume that you entered the competition through a tour operator website of some kind?

ETA: I'm not really confused at all if that's the case, I was just momentarily being thick (er). :p
