Tina is going back in tomorrow morning to get the eye removed.

He said she now has glucoma (sp) in it and the 'dent' is ulcerated. The ulcer alone would take a least a month to heal and then she'd be getting daily eyedrops for the rest of her life if we keep the eye. There is also the possibility of the eye bursting due to the pressure.

So basically the kindest thing to do is remove it and make her painfree. She has to stay in one night and then home on Saturday for some serious pampering.

Please send lots of good vibes for tomorrow please

I'm scared about her getting the anaestitic.

Try not to worry too much. 7 years old really is not bad for an anaesthetic. My 14 year old went through two perfectly fine and she wasnt in the best health.

Im sure she'll be fine and think how much better she'll feel after!

My old GSD had to have her eye removed as she had a tumour in it. She was 10 years old and I was very worried about the anaesthetic but she was fine. Its a bit of a shock when they first come home after the op without the eye. At first it just looks like the eyelid is stitched shut, but as it heals the eye socket sinks in but we soon got used to it. Her eye healed very well, she had a day or two when she tried to scratch it a bit but after that she was fine. She adapted very well to having one eye, they have a bit of trouble gauging depth but she soon learned to cope and could jump in the car etc fine. She just used to turn her head slightly.

Sadly in her case the cancer did spread, and we lost her in August 2006, but she had an extra 10 months with us.

Sending Tina loads of positive, healing vibes, I am sure she will be fine.

I know exactly how you feel. I also worry about ops on my animals. She will be fine as she is essentially a healthy dog. But I know you will breathe a sigh of relief when you know shes awake at the end of it.
