Our house insurance is up for renewal and Ive just realised our outbuildings and stable block wouldnt be covered as states theyd have to be "slate" rooved which ours arent! Ive been using insurance comparison websites but so difficult to know which ones cover outbuildings and to what degree without spending ages delving into their small print if I can even find it! Can anyone recommend any companies that will cover outbuildings? We have a mix of brick and timber outbuildings/stables with plastic profile and corrugated iron rooves. We can get heavy snow so I want them covered just in case!

NFU but only if they cover your house too (I tried to get separate cover just for yard but they don't do that apparently)

They are a lot more expensive.

Following to see if anyone has cover purely for the yard buildings - some of ours are older (none have planning!), the wiring almost certainly doesn't have all the certificates necessary so I'm torn as I don't want to fork out a tonne on insurance for them then to refuse to pay out because I don't have the necessary paperwork - purchase receipt from the builder (c.30 years ago and likely the local farmer).

Fire is really the only risk and as they are block and metal - maybe a pretty low risk.

NFU - I rang quite a few companies and brokers and they were the only ones that actually understood what we needed and could do it. They are expensive though!

Although some friends had tractors and other machinery stolen from their outbuildings and NFU were great and paid out no problem.

Do NOT trust NFU to value the rebuild cost of your buildings. They will not pay out on their own valuations but will tell you you should have got your own done by a surveyor. This is the voice of experience and it cost me a lot of money.

We've just moved to NFU. Slightly more expensive than previous insurer but less exclusions. Have always been with NFU for horses and they have always been very good.

I'm with Cliverton for buildings, all tack and equipment including land management and public liabilty as I have a footpath across one field. It's very reasonable, they are nice to deal with, but I've never (touch wood!) had to claim. so cannot comment on that
