Noticed on the money saving bit about doing your own home made electrolytes using 1 part lo sodium salt to 2 or 3 parts table salt, but not sure how much to put in as I've never used them before. I don't do overly strenuous work but he does sweat up quite a bit if we go a long ride on a warm day. Anyone any idea how much I should use and do you put it in their food or water?

How much you add depends to an extent on how much work the horse is doing. When my endurance horses are in full work (ie doing competitive rides fortnightly, distances up to 50 miles) they would get a heaped tablespoon of the salt mixture a day, plus more on the day of the ride itself. Off-season they still get half a tablespoon a day. Be sure to start off gradually.

I add mine to feed but I know some people do put it in the water. I would be worried about deterring the horse from drinking until they got used to it, though.
