Home made filler ideas and which paint is best?

As the title says really. Any ideas for some 'different' fillers? We have got barrels and cones but are looking at using and making some that are a bit more scary? Any ideas? And is there anywhere best to get cheap paint from? :)
 
If you go to your local Homebase (that sort of place) they often have sales on of the garish colours that no-one buys, which is perfect for spooky fillers!
 
Mum used to fiddle with a needle and thread to sow up a pillow case (leaving a pole shaped gap in the top - Fill with bit of sand to weight - and bobs your uncle!

Can be painted with fabric paints ect - and no 'you horse will kill itself' splinters that some people on here have been warning others about!!! ;)
 
We made these during the Royal Wedding bank hol and went all patriotic!

Got cheap B&Q exterior gloss paint to do it.

We used old Kitchen doors and gloss paint worked really well. The other thing was to cover the kitchen doors with shower curtains (buying exterior ply wood is as good as kitchen doors and
Lighter my local builders will cut to size and it's £20 for 8"x6" sheet.
 
Just for another idea for fillers, you could put hi vis rugs etc over the poles? They are v. bright of course, but not much in the way of patterns!
