Can anyone kindly give me a simple but effective fly spray recipe using products I will be able to buy from a supermarket or similar?
I am sick of spending a fortune on sprays that dont do a damn thing, a lady at my old yard used to make some that was very good at keeping them away but I never found out what she put in it, thanks in advance

I make my own as follows ...

Firstly, you need the following ingredients .... fresh garlic, cider vinegar, brown Listerine (not green or any other colour!), Dettol, tea, Eucalyptus oil, Citronella oil.

Firstly, using several garlic cloves, peel and crush them and place in a jug. Cover with about half pint of boiling water, cover in cling film and leave to infuse overnight.
Then, use a cup measure, mix the following in a 1 litre bottle or measuring jug ...

1 cup garlic infusion (flies hate the smell)
1 cup cider vinegar (flies don't like the acidity)
1 cup Listerine
several drop of both oils
2 bottle caps of Dettol
a couple of drops of washing up liquid (disperses the oils)
top up to 1 litre with strong, cold tea

... smells disgusting, looks awful, but it works! Use a spray bottle to apply it to your horse.

15 mls citronella
2 tablespoons of meths
1 tablespoon of fairy liquid
4 tablespoons of vinegar 1 mug of strong tea
2 litres of water.
This was in Your Horse magazine about 25 years ago is great as a back up.
