we have got a sand arena but it only gets leveled about once a month by a liverys in law, but it gets really deep. i now have a 4x4 so can do it myself, but we dont have proper harrows, i tried using a pallet with a couple of water containers on top and the pallet just started falling apart,
what do you guys use,
the arena hasnt been used for 2 weeks so it has gone really hard from the rain we had and then it being hot, so its gone hard and bumpy!
any tips greatly apreciated

Keep your eye open for any farm sales in your area, you mite be able to pick up a cheap harrow from there, or friendly farmer with small one he does'nt use any more due to upgrading. Just a thought.

I assume you mean an arena leveller
The firm that built out silica sand arena said commercial levellers were too expensive and recommended this
Use a 2metal sheephurdles welded together one on top of the other Fix(weld) a chain to each end and you can then tow it behind the 4x4 .My husband added some rake type spikes welded to the back egde of the hurdle to get a comb effect .
Metal sheep hurdles cost around £25 each new.Agricultural merchants will sell them
You could also use a gate but would need something like an 8ft one
You may be able to pick up metal sheephurdles or a gate cheaper at a farm sale or farm type car boot.
We use ours every couple of days and it works a treat.

We use a sheep hurdle behind a quad bike to harrow our woodchip school, we tie a big square fence post on top of it to give it some weight.

I'm sure a metal gate or sheep hurdles would work on sand and won't disintegrate like a pallet.

hmmm i might try the sheep hurdle, i know we have atleast one hurdle, i like the idea of putting rake spikes on the end
