Ok, so not really home made but I have several half used pots of various hoof dressings all looking a bit manky/ broken pots or lids so Ive got a big tub with a lid and am going to chuck it all in together and mix (maybe heat and mix!)
I'm only talking Hoof moist etc nothing chemically so will be fine to mix up. Am also going to chuck in the remains of a large bottle of eucalyptus oil.
Is there anything else that would be beneficial and actually do my horses hooves some good?

Because it seemed to me the same as Kevin bacon hoof dressing with some oils in it. I didn’t buy it, by the way , a friend did. It has animal fats and oils as ingredients

I've caught the yard dogs AND CAT licking Kevin Bacons off Bruce's hooves, on more than one occasion..! He just stood there and let them  I wasn't particularly pleased with the arrangement - from a safety perspective, and the fact it's bleddy expensive! ;)

An old farrier once told me that the best dressing for hooves was rendered horse fat. Kind of putting in something from the actual animal will be better absorbed. He swore by it although I have never tried it.

He said horses did not object...

When I had a thrusy one I did heat up standard hoof oil with 1/3 bottle added stockholm tar. It made a thick gloop when cooled that coated the underside of the feet. It was easy enough to do in the tack room as we had a wood burner, so I just added the ingredients straight into the hoof oil tin once there was room, and gave it a stir with the hoof oil brush.

It was strong stuff, stayed put and emulsioned over any cracks. I only used it when needed, then once a week as a preventative.

Frank (the pony) eats it straight from the pot...
I don't use it anymore :p
