I'm sure someone must have asked this before but...

Does anyone have any ideas for cheap home-made jumps for our field? I reckon we need 5 at least to set up a bit of an sj course to practice over. We only have a few wooden wings, 4 poles and some tyres.
I was going to buy some poly jumps until I saw the prices - crikey!!!

I have some large blue barrels. they are used fairly commonly by various companies. Obviously check what's been in them and make sure washed out thoroughly!!! i picked mine up for free!
Anyway... they are about size of an oil drum and can be cut fairly easily with a jigsaw. i cut some in half and cut half circles out of the top rim to rest poles across.
One pair i cut thin slots in to fit/match some plastic pole 'cups' that come from an expensive poly jumps type stand.
one pair have big holes cut out around the drum to rest poles at various heights. Ideally pour some water in the bottom if you want them to be a bit heavier and less likely to fall over if knocked.
sorry no piccies! But basically if you can get hold of these type of barrels and a jigsaw it's possible to fix up siome easy to carry useful jumps! and all for free with a bit of effort! bargain!

These are our homemade jumps (the only thing we bought were the jump cups)
The filler is a pallet cut in 2 with feet attached at either end and the wings were made from old fenceposts and bits of ply.
