I'm off to buy some Vaseline

I have been altering vaseline for a long time. I take a teaspoon out of the jar, then place the jar in a bowl of hot water, which makes the vaseline melt. I then add a teaspoon of pure tea tree oil while the vaseline is liquid, I give it a good stir. Put the lid on the vaseline and leave it somewhere cool and it goes solid again, and you have a soothing, healing gel. It is good for insect bites - the midges love my horse.

I mix a big heaped tablespoon of sudocream with a level teaspoon of sulphur and a 5 drops of treatree oil. I find this excellent on inflamed areas due to mites, mud fever - both to heal and as a barrier, general cuts and scrapes. I also use this on the sheath/boobs area of my two to prevent SI and stop bites and soothe the area.

Salt water and tea tree and eucalyptus oil is great for preventing and getting rid of thrush and a good general scrub for smelly feet. I use 5 drops of each, with a handful of salt in a pint of hot water.

I also paint the frogs with stockholm tar, mixed with the above essential oils in winter every week or so.

Pig oil and sulphur - my must have for hairy horses legs and also very good on manes and tails in winter to keep pests out and mud at bay.
