Homemade Anti-Chew Recipies?

Anyone know of any homemade recipies to stop my pony's mane being chewed by the other horses?

We had a similar problem with a mares tail being chewed by her foal, there have been a few postings in the breeding section. Don't try chili, it didn't work, the foal liked it and cost us about 4 inches of tail overnight. Someone suggested vicks vapour rub??? Don't know if it works and you might like to do a little more research???
