I will shortly be renting some land and would like to build some sort of field shelter and hay store. Has anyone built one from scratch but using materials that you have to hand... There are 3/4 felled trees on the land and I was wondering if I could use these to construct the frame and buy the roofing sheets and materialls to finish off with. Has anyone ever sone anything like this and if so do you have any photos of your handiwork ?? Seems a shame to have the trees removed when I could potentially use them even in some rustic way??

Thanks all

We have an ancient shelter that has four pillars which are trees each with a slot cut out at the top for the roofing frame to sit on.

I think you will need planning for a permanent shelter though.

I used 6 6ft x 6ft fence panels joined with some thick timber pillars cemented into the ground, wood pallets you find around inductrial places for kick boards ( some need chip board nailed across to fill in the pallet gaps) and then that thick black plastic sheeting that builders use for the roof. This worked as both a shelter and a hay barn. If you add maybe one more fence panel it then will give you the stable. I was looking after a friends horse for a while and it was great and now I fill it with 7 huge hay bales and lots of other bits and its water proof.

if you want some pictures PM me your email and I can send some to you. :D

hope that helps
