Can you get a homemade haysteamer (dustbin & wallpaper steamer) up to the correct temperature to kill microbes? I think it needs to hit 90degrees, but not sure for how long!

If you have had success with yours please could I ask what set up you have; what wallpaper steamer? how does the steam get delivered (ie copper pipe with holes, plastic plate already on end of steamer)? How long do you run it for? & anything else that might be helpful.

Thank you very much!!!

This is just my opinion based on my own experience but if you cannot get to the 'magic' temp then you will not stop or prevent a hay based cough.

I think that you would need to get the steam into the bottom somewhere so that it could filter up through the hay. I have a haygain which has on the whole been fantastic and worth every penny... Despite having had a temperature problem, see another thread today.

Thank you! I was all set on buying a haygain (in the future when I've saved a bit more!!) then I saw the thread & panicked a little! lol!
Looks like I'll have to live off beans for a few months!!

Despite my recent issue, I would still buy another. The design is excellent and it does what they say it does. I have mine set up on two switches. One is a 90 min timed push button switch so I can run it during the day. The other is a programmable time switch which will switch it on overnight to use the cheaper electricity..... We have econ7. I have to use mine every day, sometimes twice so it gets well used LOL.

I just couldn't take the chance with a homemade one.
