Also posted in New Lounge- does anyone make their own disinfectant? i;ve looked at powders awailabel n tbh they're pretty expensive. Friends of mine use lime but heard that its caustic to horses lungs n obv know its caustic to skin. Any suggestions? my boy is extremely smelly n even tho he is mucked out n bed left up for day i cant get rid of smell. His floor gets brushed really well every day and i'm v anal about my mucking out! :D

Suggestions please!!!!

I wouldn't mess about with caustic chemicals. You could end up with a hefty vets bill for chemical burns to underbelly or god knows what reactions between the chemicals and ammonia. What bedding do you use? If you use straw, personal opinion only I know, but it is not absorbant like eg shavings are. I'd ditch any expensive alternatives and start using reasonable quality shavings. Fragrant, easy to muck out, easy to start a deep litter system. My horses have been on the same deep litter shavings bed for 5 years and after skipping out and clean pulled down from the bank at the back, it's as fragrant as a brand new bed. Envy of the yard.

I spray diluted ziflora before I pull the bed down just to get rid of the smell - my boy is very smelly!

I used to use equidry but it's just so expensive these days!
