My welsh cob has recently been diagnosed with arthritis in his coffin joints.
I was reading a book about homeopathy for horses & they suggested a remedy which is meant to help with this...
Tylophora Indica
Has anyone ever used this or anything similar?
And were the results good/no different?
Thanks

My horse has arthritis and I have tried a lot of different treatments, most of which have been very useful:
Tildren
Steroid joint injections
Adequan injections
bute/danilon 1x a day if she's very stiff or after a busy day like a sponsored ride
more turnout and exercise and yardwalking to prevent stiffness
corrective shoeing can be extremely helpful in some cases - it has helped my mare a lot
magnet stable chaps - I'm not sure if it's the magnets or just the warmth of the chaps, probably the latter, but she does come out of her stable less stiff in winter when she's had them on
supplements - I like synequin but apparently riaflex is just as good. Cortaflex didn't do anything for my horse.
physio and a massage pad to help with muscle tightness from incorrect use of muscles

I haven't tried homeopathy and I don't intend to. There was a livery at my old yard who was a professional homeopath and she was explaining the benefits of homeopathy for arthritis in horses to the other lady with an arthritic horse. I was there and I reminded them that if they were going to give this drug to the horse they needed to check with the vet first that it wouldn't interact with his Tildren (which he was having about that time) or his bute. The homeopath said no, this wouldn't be a problem, because there isn't actually any anything in the homeopathic medicine, it is just water with the memory of the other stuff. So basically she is claiming to have discovered a whole new branch of physics. Until she steps up to prove it and claim her Nobel Prize, I will spend my money on neutraceuticals, steroids and Adequan which make a massive difference to my horse. Other people might feel differently, as is their right. The homeopath certainly wasn't very impressed with me. But there you go.

This is true and is why it works as a placebo only.

My question is, how do you get the horse to believe that the special water will make him/her better? ;)

Personally I wouldn't waste my money!

There are lots of treatments available, all of which have proven efficacy, unlike homeopathic remedies. Talk to your vet about Adequan, Tildren, and Cartrophen (my horse has had the first two for arthritis). Look into joint supplements and discuss remedial shoes with your farrier (mine had lateral extensions behind for spavins for a while but have actually found now that he moves better without them, and has Natural Balance shoes in front). He's also had steroid injections into both hocks.

My arthritic horse has a sachet of Danilon daily and benefits from as much turnout as possible, plus regular exercise.

In terms of natural remedies, you can try linseed, rosehips, and turmeric (think I've read about that). Have also seen Boswellia Serrata mentioned on here but it's too expensive for me. Also Devil's Claw and apple cider vinegar.

As above^^ My young, and very open-minded vet said that there is "no science" in homeopathy.

My old mare has a sachet of Danilon/day for her arthritic neck and does daily exercises (chartered equine physio recommended). She is just fine and very mobile.

As above - don't bother with homeopathy for a horse who doesn't believe!

My share horse had Cartrophen earlier this year and its made a positive difference to him.
