Homeopathy worth a try for small sarcoid???

I've tried searching, but there are so many post on sarcoids I've given up.

My 8yo TB has a small nodule very high up between her back legs and I think it may have grown slightly since I last checked it a while back. I'm sure it used to be fairly flat, and now it is 2-3mm raised (though still less than pea sized).

Assuming that this is a sarcoid, could someone remind me what the homeopathic treatment is for them, and any experiences if it having worked would obviously be v helpful also.

It would be a bummer of a place to treat with liverpool cream or surgery, so I was hoping to try something more holistic and gentle to start with anyway.

Please help.

Hmmm, that is a nasty place. my mare had one between her thighs and they decided to band it adn it tore her skin to pieces.. was terrible.

I would use echinacea internally for a start. Is it rough or just a lump under the skin? Does it feel like it has a root or can you move it about under the skin (if not warty)?
 
I have experience of treating sarcoids surgically (cutting out/liverpool cream and a new therapy which I'm awaiting to see the results of) and doing it homeopathically.

I have had fantastic results treating isolated sarcoids (such as one one on the front of her chest) by tying her tail hair around it; and smothering in Hilton Herbs Virex cream (£15 a pot).

You wrap the tail hair round several times, make sure its nice and tight and re do once or twice during the week. It takes about a month or six weeks to drop off. I would not do this treatment on a fibroblastic (sp?) sarcoid.

I have also had good results from Global Herbs Sarc-X but I probably wouldn't bother with this supplement if you only have one to treat.

Your sarcoid sounds like its in a very tricky place so do be careful. You might struggle to do the hair thing due to the difficult location.
 
I used Bloodroot on my horses one and only sarcoid and it completely disappeared. Bloodroot is a plant traditionally used for the removal or warts and growths apparently!! It makes them a bit sore, but not as bad as liverpool, and you apply it yourself. Some people also use Thuja (I think?!) and say it works well.

I have had really good success using Thuja ointment (wouldnt personally bother with the homeopathic pills, but would just use the ointment). The great thing is it doesnt sting or hurt so its really good for sarcoids that are situated in 'delicate areas'
 
Before you pay for anything try this:

Our gelding had 2 sarcoids on his face when he was young and we treated it by picking a dandilion, splitting the stem and rub the sap onto the sarcoid, it will start to shrivel up and fell off!

I know Thuja is a popular treatment for warts and verrucas in humans, probably worth a try with your horse? Good luck, whatever you try

Thanks guys for all the advice (and I've done a bit more searching and found a few more posts on sarcoids as well).

I really think the first step should be the thuja cream. Blootroot etc sounds like it works as well but this nodule is really high up inside her hind leg, and she is thin skinned at the best of times. ALso it is coming into the fly season.

I will buy some thuja cream ( anyone recommend an online supplier - I say www.abcpharmacy.com) mentioned in another post - is it good??), and see how we go.

Anything more invasive will have to wait for a few months until the cooler weather I think.

We started using the thuja in jan. Now they have gone!!! Dont know if they will come back yet though.

I used the cream and tablets, cream from ebay and tablets from boots. TBH i think the tablets did most of it, the cream just rubbed of on the rug leg straps after about 5 seconds. In the end we stopped using the cream as it was getting matted in the hair around it. Now the larger sarcoid is just slightly raised skin and i cant even find the smaller one.

They say what works for one horse might not work for another but i cant recomend thuja enough, be patient though it took a couple of months before we noticed much change.
 
My mares was the same and in the same place so I think you are making the right decision about keeping it less intrusive.
The one she had a lamb band on was such a terrible mess and ripped away the skin on both sides of her inner thighs and she was in terrible pain

She had a smaller one further down that a different vet just made a small incision in the skin and it just popped out like a hard lump of something and healed up really well ( I can't remember if that one was between the crease of the thighs like her other one or not but I remember it healed very quickly with no stitches etc) Might be worth talking to the vet about that route as the smaller the lump the smaller the incision I guess..
 
Thanks silverbreeze. I will try the thuja (prob cream and tabs as someone sugested), as it is such a delicate area.

It definitely is solely on the skin, so hopefully be successful.

My other mare has a bump on her stifle (hard lump under the skin like yours), and my vet has twice popped it out with his fingers (yuckeroo), it is very unlikely to be a sarcoid though as takes maybe 18 months or so to grow back, more likely to be a foreign body reaction from a thorn perhaps.

It is a hard place to get at, but will try to get some pics for a before and after.
