Anyone got experience of towing with a 2.2 diesel Honda CRV? Was it up to the job?

I am test driving 1 tomorrow.

Prob not what your goin to want to hear, but...
My dad used to have one a few yrs back as a company car & he wasnt all that impressed with it for towing. I personally never drove it so cant voice an opinion on it, but my dad felt it struggled to tow an Ifor trailer (sorry dont know the model) & was quite heavy to drive. As a car on its own, he liked it, but after towing once with it we stuck to borrowing a landrover to tow. Altho, not sure if this makes a diff, he wasnt a frequent tower, so might be better when you get used to it.

The diesel engine is pretty torquey, so should pull. I'd worry about the drivetrain a bit long term as OH's car has suffered being used as a vet's car (not towing, but heavy loads and weight at the back).

Just as a car, very economical (45 plus mpg) pootling around the countryside, mid 30s when worked hard on country roads. Motorway mpg is the weak point (35 on a good day!) - you can really feel headwinds as well, and watch the fuel guage dropping, but that is the case for most cars of that type and size...
