My beautiful brave old lurcher lost her fight on Friday.... the saddest bit was she could not quite manage to hang on until her dad got back from Afganistan.... we are all devastated. Chloe keeps looking for her[ she is my young JRT] and Beeble stood by the back door waiting for her to go past so he could nip her heels as they go in the garden but again she never came...
I told her how much i loved her as she went but at that moment you only hope that you can get enough love into them to speed them on their journey and that they really knew that.
She has been my best friend for 15 years.
sleep well baby.

Thank you so much everyone , it helped to write this post and it helps even more to read your replies , especially because i know you know where i am coming from on this. So It is a heartfelt thank you.
I have decided she will be buried, or rather, her ashes will be buried under my big apple tree so that every apple blossom every year will always remind me of such a special dog and companion.

Oh poor you, I do sympathise as I had to go through this last week with my dear old Lab. I agree it helped to post and helped even more to get lots of lovely posts in reply. I am waiting for the ashes of my old Bertie and your idea of the apple tree sounds such a lovely one. I think I am going to put his ashes where he used to and find a shady hidy hole in the summer and his little face would peep out of the flowers now and then to see what we were up to!

RIP Honey Bun.

SO sorry partoow - from what you have said in the past I know you were dreading having to make this decision. Well done for having the courage.
