Well, we made the journey today for Honey's post op check after her Kissing Spine op. It was meant to happen at the end of 12 weeks, so we've gone a bit over as it's now 15 weeks - but well I had to fit a holiday in somewhere!!!

Svend was extremely pleased with her, but she does have a bit of nerve damage in one area on her back after the op, which means that one muscle isn't firing yet so is a bit hollow in that area, and needs a bit more treatment with a muscle stimulator (but that's ok cause my physio has already left his with me while he's on holiday). Svend wants Honey worked in the pessoa 3x a week introducing canter and working over a longer period of time; but reckons that it'll be ok to go back on board in a months time.

I'm so pleased, I can't wait. It will be nice to just have to work her 3 x week as well, as I've been working her everyday for the last 15 weeks (well I did take one week off during our holiday), so it'll be nice to have a few evenings off. I can't believe how much he tightened the pessoa up - he said I was being very generous to her, I thought she'd sit down and cry; and because none of the girls there had long reined for such a long time it meant that I had to do it myself. I kept thinking Oh God, what if she throws her dummy out of the pram (like she's prone to do on occasion), but she was brilliant. He even asked me to canter her, which we haven't really done much of (2-3 steps at a time is all really), she did 3 full circuits each way without any trouble, so I've come back feeling really rather smug and proud.

Anyway, I'll post a picture once I'm back in the saddle, but it's just lovely to have my beautiful girl back.

Thanks everyone for your support.

I just thought I'd post a couple of pics for you all to have a look at. Also if anyone is just about to embark down the road for the operation, hopefully it will give you a bit of insight and make it a little less nerve racking.

This one was taken two weeks after Honey's operation.

And this is just 13 weeks after that picture was taken. Even I didn't realise we'd managed to travel that far!! I think she's looking really good, for such a short space of time.

Well done! I hope everything continues to go well for you.
I'm just experiencing how my boy now feels and he has turned into a completely different horse he is very agile and a tad too energetic but I marvel at how the muscles in his back now wobble when I lunge him and his trot has markedly lengthened.

Am really pleased for you, a massive well done for sticking with it and doing so well, it really is a long hard tiring road and I think Honey looks brilliant, definitely has rather more muscle in her 2nd picture can't believe the change in her neck - your definitely doing something right!

It is lovely to hear your news after all of the heartache, let us know how you get on when you get back on her, I hope and am sure she will carry on being a poppet for you.

thanks Beth. I still think her neck looks a bit scrawny, but I like the way her Abs are coming up - she just needs to lose a bit of weight, which I hope will start to happen now that I'm able to work her over a longer period. I think she's definately starting to look more like one horse (ie not a cut and shut!) I forgot to ask Svend when it would be ok to let her loose in a full sized paddock, what advise did he give you?? I know you must have asked that question! I'm presuming once I'm back onboard?
