Hoof advice

Hi

Now, I am sure this kind of question sounds incredibly naive - but bear with me, I am a new horse owner - the last time I had a horse I was twelve!

Anyway, horse recently lame due to abscess, farrier in attendance, poultice, box rest etc for 10 days, he has now been re shod and is sound - but what is the sticky stuff between the shoe and hoof that the farrier packs in. And would you say OK to hack out with gentle trot and a bit of a canter...

If the horse is sound, then you can start ridden work again. I don't know what the farrier put in between the shoe and hoof. Could you text the farrier and ask him? Just say that you forgot to ask at the time and wondered what it was.
