Has anyone used? How long did it last? My farrier is happy to try it but I’m not sure if it’s worth the effort If it doesn’t stay put for long. He also suggested he’d have to take the sole back, so if it doesn’t work I’d be left with a pony with soles more sensitive than they are now.

Any experiences welcome.

My farrier uses Hoof Armour and he makes sure the feet are bone dry, no oils, sprays or anything which will muck up the stickability. He also uses some kind of heat gun which looks like one of those things Jamie Oliver uses on puddings. Never used it myself but he says it is very good for thin soled horses which is how we got around to talking about it.

I've tried it. I put it on my pony's solres and the bottom of the hoof wall. I would say for a horse with sensitive soles it would be worth trying but my problem is that the road surfaces round here act like a rasp and wear the feet down too quickly if I ride faster than a walk. When I tried it the hoof armour stayed on the sole but on the parts of the hooves with it on which were in contact with the road it wore off within about 10 miles and then the hooves wore down as before. I have gone back to using boots for longer rides. If I was to use it all the time I would have to put it on every week.

I have used it with some success on a horse with a sensitive sole following an injury and infection. It lasted about 5 weeks, but I wasn't riding him at the time, just wanted him comfortable for the walk on the road to and from the field. I was pleased with how well it cleared up some minor white line infection.

I have used it once. I found it very helpful. I ordered some a couple of days ago because the beast is on his yearly unshod break. The poor thing needs a break from shoes to improve his hooves but the sole of his left fore is so thin it's not easy for him.
