Although I’ve used it before it looks a bit daunting!
The horse I’d originally purchased it for had a trim last week which is annoying. He lives out so I’m not really sure how I’ll do him.

My little pony though is having his trim this afternoon. He’s in his stable now so his feet will be bone dry and clean from the farrier so figured a perfect time to try.
So, plan Is trim him first so I can tie him out on clean concrete. Apply it and use the talcum powder (not something I use, really hoping there’s some upstairs or I need to fit a supermarket trip in!)
Then I can leave him pottering round the yard for a few hours or back in his straw stable?
Does this sound good? I lost my applicator from last time so had to buy the whole lot again hence keen to get it right!
Old clothes and gloves on standby.

you can use limestone flour instead of talc if you have any.

It’s done! Farrier came early. Apparently he was booked to come early 🤦‍♀️ luckily I was home and they were all in ready anyway.
Found some talc. He’s now chilling in his stable.
My farrier did say he just has seriously thin soles, I think I’m going to try and give him another coat in 24 hours.
🤞 it works for him.

So In regards to the other who lives out.
As long as his feet are dry, I can wire brush them, apply the Hoof armour and then he spends his days split between a pretty bare track so that’s loose dusty stuff mainly and field, perhaps if I powder him and put him back onto the track but close the grass off?
Would that work?
He doesn’t have a stable.

Yes it will work. Don't forget to do the frogs and lower part of the heel bulbs too.

All I need now Is a bit of dry July!

I have to say I was a little disappointed how the pony came in this morning. He cantered over the field as normal but still obviously felt the stones coming from field to yard.

It may take a while to get the full effect. The hoof armour allows the sole to grow thicker under it over time.

Yes.
Oh ok, so worth continuing with even if I don’t see a huge change?
That’s a relief!
Yes it took a little while for mine to get the best effect.
Do make sure there isn't something going on in the hooves beyond thin soles though. No pulses.

Can’t feel any, I’m not the best but farrier couldn’t either. It’s an ongoing thing. The vet checked last time she was out and was happy it’s not laminitis.
If I could just go sweep the gateway out of stones he’d be fine.

Give a second coat on the fronts the next dry day.

How are you getting on - I have some arriving next week, so really interested in your experience!
The lady did say bear with it for best results!
Hiya! I was planning on the second coat yesterday but ended up bathing him without thinking so he was soaked, I'm going to have time tomorrow so will get it done then.
I'll be honest at this point he is much the same but Gloi have given me some reassurance that as the lady told you it gets better over time helping the sole to toughen up so I'm still hopeful and its really easy to do.
Its strange stuff and does actually feel quite warm through the gloves as you spread it.

Hope yours go's well, update us here!

If it gives you any encouragement I rode for two hours mainly on the roads yesterday and I had done a coat earlier in the week after a farrier trim a few days ago. No complaints about any rocks from him and no wear to his feet when we got back.

Thank you! That sounds great, how long has yours been without shoes for?
He's never had shoes. I used Scoot boots but only use them now for extra long rides above what we normally do. He was previously getting too much wear to his feet without boots but he moves better without them.

Do you think hood armour has made that difference?
I wouldn’t imagine my pony has ever had shoes either. He’s 30 and I can’t imagine anyone hating their child enough for him to have ever been sat on! (He’s only 11.2!)
