Ok I have my first affiliated showing show next monday, and my chestnut with 4 white socks looks so smart with blacked out hooves (he's a SHP so I can get away with it)

I need recommendations! I want one that is really black, glossy and won't rub off on grass etc

I only use hoofoil/black for shows (once a month if I'm lucky) so not worried about drying his feet out, they are usually left well alone!

Effol or Sablene are both very good. I used to like using traditional carr & day & martin hoof oil in the red tin tho as this gives such a lovely shine

Ultimate product is ultra hoof varnish. You then finish it off on the day with ultra hoof enhance - feet look like black glass. You can then remove it with the ultra polish remover.

I got mine from the States, I can send you an email address if you want. I have the clear version - last ages and is worth every penny - no mess or coming off on the day.

I bought some sort of black hoof paint once - very sturdy stuff which eventually came off after a few days - and I loved it, UNTIL I once poured some into a small plastic container to take a small amount to a show with me, and when I went back to it the plastic had completely melted away! My god, what on earth would it be doing to the hooves?! I'll never use that sort of product again, sorry!
