Hi,
I have some Easyboot Trails that I am very pleased with, but I do have a few questions.
Bob lives out 24/7 (although he does have access to a large barn where the hay is fed, so he brings himself in when he wants!) In winter it gets very muddy. I am wondering about fitting the boots on to wet/muddy feet! I don't want them to rub his pasterns- obviously I can wash the mud off, but should I maybe use a gaitor or pastern wrap? Can you use them on wet legs?
At the moment I just put vet-wrap on for long rides, but am thinking this might not be a good idea over wet/muddy feet?
Would these help?http://www.thesaddleryshop.co.uk/P/Boa_Horse_Boot_Old_Macs_Multipurpose_Hoof_Boot_Gaiters-(541).aspx
Or would something like these be any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kitt-Pastern-Wraps-One-Size-/130831112859
I have seen a couple of threads recommending men's socks, but am not sure how these would work on wet/muddy feet? Also, Bob takes size 9 boots - he has huge feet! I don't think men's socks would fit!
All ideas and experiences gratefully received! :)
Here's a picture of the handsome fella sporting his boots:

Thanks!

I use reallllly stretchy hiking socks :) mine are the ones that are like not shaped to a human foot, the like tube socks. (if that makes sense?)

I found that if the boots fit, then the gaitors make them too tight because they are thick-ish.

I think I would use socks, you could try with some cheap ones?

Impressed that you have the rare horse who suits the Trails :p

I've used Old Macs (very similar) successfully in the past riding from the field - we don't have stables. I bring an old towel, pick and brush each hoof and give it a quick rub with the towel before popping it into boot. This seems to have worked fine with quite wet feet. The skin does toughen up after you've used them for a while. I've never had a rub.

My friend also discovered Lanacane Powder... about £6 in e.g. Boots. It's like a talc, but is slightly medicated and designed to stop rubs. Sprinking on the hoof and heel bulbs after towel drying and before booting helps stop rubs and absorbs any extra moisture.
